Daniel Cardoso discusses future at Sekhukhune United

Sekhukhune United veteran defender Daniel Cardoso has spoken openly about his future with the club.

Cardoso linked with Babina Noko side ahead of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership campaign, joining the club as a free agent after he parted ways with Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.

He had penned a two-year deal which will see his contract expire end at the end of the current campaign.

With his experience at the back, Cardoso quickly established himself in the heart of the defence at Sekhukhune, becoming a key player. As a result of his leadership qualities, the former Bafana Bafana defender was named the vice-captain at Sekhukhune and led the club on a few occasions.

The 35-year-old has worked with three different coaches: Kaitano Tembo, Brandon Truter, and now Lehlohonolo Seema.

All-in-all, the centre-back has made 61 appearances in all competitions for the club and found the back of the net once. In addition, Cardoso has tried to be solid at the back for Sekhukhune as he has helped his side to keep 20 clean sheets.

DANIEL CARDOSO ON HIS FUTURE AT SEKHUKHUNE UNITED

A few months back, reports stated that Cardoso would be released at the end of the season. But the defender says this has never bothered him, as there has been no official communication from the Sekhukhune management.

“You know there are always rumours everywhere, but nobody [from the club management] has said anything to me,” Cardoso told FARPost.

“My contract at the club finishes at the end of the season so we will see what happens afterwards then.

“My main focus right now is finishing the season strong and help the team finish as high as possible in a better position. Then we will see what happens when the season ends.”

Sekhukhune are on a good run as the season is about to end. They are fourth on the log after collecting 35 points from 22 matches.
