Luke Fleurs murder: Six suspects to appear in court as police seek more

As the search for more suspects continues in the Luke Fleurs case, Gauteng police have confirmed that those already arrested in connection with the Kaizer Chiefs defender’s hijacking and murder are set to appear in court on Friday.

Fleurs, aged 24, was fatally shot during a hijacking incident at a Honeydew petrol station last Wednesday. The former SuperSport United star succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at a medical facility.

Following this devastating event, Gauteng Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni swiftly assembled a team dedicated to apprehending the suspects. A few days later, Fleurs’ car was recovered, though it had already been stripped of parts.

The authorities tracked down and apprehended the six suspects in Slovoville, Soweto, during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo believes the arrested individuals may be part of a larger Gauteng car hijacking syndicate. The investigation to locate additional suspects is ongoing.

SIX ARRESTED IN LUKE FLEURS MURDER CASE – COURT APPEARANCE SET

“It is reported that the victim, who was driving a red VW Golf 8 GTI, drove into the petrol station in 14th Avenue at the corner of Hendrik Potgieter,” said Masondo.

“While waiting to be served by the petrol attendant, he was confronted by two armed men driving a white BMW 1 Series. The suspects pointed a firearm at him and pulled him out of his vehicle, then shot him once in the upper body.

“One suspect drove off with the victim’s car followed by his accomplice. The victim was taken to the nearest medical care centre where he was certified dead on arrival.”

The next step in the case will see the arrested suspects appear before the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Friday. They face charges of murder and hijacking.

“Police believe that the suspects are part of a syndicate that is responsible for car hijackings in Gauteng, and the search for more suspects is continuing,” added Masondo.
