Latest update on Richard Ofori’s future at Orlando Pirates
Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori will see his contract run out at the end of the season, here’s the latest update on his future with the club.
The Ghanaian has fallen further down the pecking order with Sipho Chaine being the first choice for Jose Riveiro while Melusi Buthelezi seems to have gotten ahead.
This season, he’s yet to get a run in the domestic competitions as he’s only featured in three matches of the CAF Champions League.
Despite not getting much game time at club level, he remains the preferred shot-stopper for his national team Black Stars. He started all their three matches at this year’s AFCON as they crashed out in group stages.
NO TALKS BETWEEN PIRATES & OFORI YET, TWO TEAMS OUTSIDE SA INTERESTED
It appears the Buccaneers haven’t spoken to Ofori over the possibility of renewing his contract with two months left before it expires.
Furthermore, two clubs from outside South Africa have shown interest in the 30-year-old.
The Accra-born, Ofori is allowed to pen a pre-contract with any club of his choice as he’s now within the final six months of his contract with the Soweto giants.
He has been with the club since the beginning of the 2020/21 campaign when he signed from the Team of Choice.
Overall, he has amassed 58 appearances across all competitions, conceding 36 goals and keeping 30 clean-sheets.
He has lifted four trophies with the club – the Nedbank Cup and three MTN8 titles.
OTHER PLAYERS WHO’LL BE OUT OF CONTRACT AT PIRATES
Thabang Monare, Kermit Erasmus, Makhehlene Makhaula and Siyabonga Mpontshane are also among those whose contracts will be coming to an end in June.
Monare signed a one-year extension in July last year and the club has an option to extend his contract.
