Relegation-threatened Marumo Gallants appoint former PSL coach
Struggling Motsepe Foundation Championship side Marumo Gallants have appointed a former PSL coach as they continue to fight for survival.
Gallants are currently in the basement of the log with seven matches remaining until the end of the season in the second-tier league.
They are currently under the guidance of Mpho Maleka who took the reigns from Steven Polack in January this year.
But the results have not been forthcoming for the former DStv Premiership club. Gallants have won just one match in the six played under Maleka who is working with Rodney Thobejane as his assistant.
In their quest to beef up the technical team, the club has now added former Baroka FC coach Stanford Nkoane. The latter was in charge at Baroka before being replaced by Dan Malesela earlier this season.
STANFORD NKOANE APPOINTED TO BE PART OF MARUMO GALLANTS COACHING STAFF
“Yes, Nkoane has been appointed as a second assistant,” Gallants liaison officer Rufus Matsena confirmed to FARPost.
“Nkoane is just bringing in fresh ideas to avoid what happened last season. So the idea from the chairman is to try by all means to save the status of the team,” he said.
MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP LOG POSITION A SERIOUS CONCERN FOR GALLANTS
Matsena admits that there is a serious concern with regards to the league position of the club given what transpired last season.
Gallants were relegated to the first division on the last day of the season after a 2-0 defeat to Moroka Swallows.
“Seven games [remaining] is not a lot. But if the players focus together with the technical team. I think chances are very high that we will make it,” declared Matsena.
“It is a concern. That is not a comfortable place to be. But we are hoping to find the solutions soon and get to a safer position.”
