Zungu on hold: City Rovers coach explains midfielder’s status
Platinum City Rovers coach Tlou Segolela has explained why former Orlando Pirates midfielder Nkanyiso Zungu has not featured for the club.
Zungu has been training with Rovers after being released by Pirates at the end of last season.
He also had a loan spell at Richards Bay FC but it was cut short, reportedly due to off-field issues.
The 28-year-old has been training with the Motsepe Foundation Championship side since early March but nothing official has been confirmed.
Segolela has since confirmed that the club is on the verge of finalising a few things with Zungu before he makes his debut.
WHY NKANYISO ZUNGU HAS NOT FEATURED FOR PLATINUM CITY ROVERS
“Zungu has been training with the team, showing a lot of commitment. You can see the hunger is there and he is giving his all at training,” he told FARPost.
“You can see he has missed the smell of the grass. We are in the final stages with him and soon we will reach a conclusion,” added Segolela.
“We are still working on his fitness as well, remember when you are coming from a higher level to where we are it is very difficult. It needs someone with a strong mentality.
“So those are some things we are trying to instill in him to show him that he needs this opportunity. But we are very happy with his progress so far.”

Segolela also revealed why they roped in the midfielder who has also had stints at Stellenbosch FC and AmaZulu FC.
“As a player, we all know the quality he possesses,” he explained.
“He has all the aspects of the game. He is very much focused, even when we are playing [league matches], he will do some work alone and he has shown a huge commitment.”
