The secret behind Devin Titus’ fine form

Firing on all cylinders this season, Stellenbosch FC’s red-hot winger, Devin Titus, has shed light on the secret fuelling his impressive form.

Titus rose through the ranks to become an important member of Stellies’ squad. He was promoted to the first team in January 2021.

The Stellenbosch Young Footballer of the Season for the 2022/23 season has been phenomenal for the Cape club, scoring important goals for his side.

In the current campaign, the former SA junior international has scored 10 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions.

In fact, Titus currently sits in second place on the club’s all-time scoring charts with 17 goals. He’s now equal on goals with Ashley Du Preez, who is now playing for Kaizer Chiefs. Iqraam Rayners tops the charts with 60 goals.

His stellar performances have helped the Steve Barker-coached side to go 19 games unbeaten across all competitions since October 2023.

From those 19 games, Stellies have won 13 games and drew six in the process. This is the longest unbeaten run of all top-flight teams across competitions.

DEVIN TITUS ON HIS STELLAR PERFORMANCES

The talented footballer divulged that the secret behind his fine form is influenced by a winning mentality and not settling for less.

“My secret is working hard and always trying to improve my game by working on my finishing and composure. Also not settling for less,” Titus told FARPost.

When speaking to the to the media in Cape Town ahead of their Nedbank Cup quarter-final tie against SuperSport United, he added that: “Scoring goals is not my main objective you know. My main objective is to win games for the team, whether I score, assist or give nothing, as long as you win at the end of the day, that’s my main objective and priority.

“I’m young, you know, but age is just a number, and winning is my mentality. Without winning, I don’t think I can be the person that I am today.

“With that said, hard work is also the main priority for me. Without hard work, there won’t be Titus without winning; those are two main objectives.”

After winning the 2021/22 DStv Diski Challenge, the Stellies reserve team retired jersey No. 7 in his honour for the significant role he played during the title-winning campaign.
