Former SuperSport United striker completes move to Bulgaria
Former SuperSport United and Cape Town All Stars striker Jaisen Clifford has completed a move to the First League, the top level of Bulgarian football.
Clifford penned a deal with FK Estar Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria on a free transfer after parting ways with Armenia outfit FC Van. The South African-born striker had signed a one-year deal with FC Van in August 2023. This was his second stint with the club after spending five months in their ranks from January to July 2022.
The right-footed attacker showed big potential during his time with the SuperSport United development in 2014 where he caught the attention of teams outside South Africa.
Jaisen Clifford was also in the colours of the Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town All Stars, who sold their status to Black Leopards last season. The attacker only spent one season in the PSL with All Stars during the 2020/21 season.
JAISEN CLIFFORD FIRST BREAKTHROUGH TO OVERSEAS WAS IN 2016
The 28-year-old forward made his first break abroad in 2016 when he signed for Malta Premier League side Gudja United.
He went on to spend a few seasons in Lithuania, where he played for Stumbras alongside former Kaizer Chiefs winger Kgaogelo Sekgota. The talented striker later left Strumbas to join Condeixa in Portugal’s second division.
Clifford has been a free agent since January 2024. A source told FARPost that Jaisen Clifford signed a one-and-a-half-year deal with Bulgarian club FK Estar Veliko Tarnovo after parting ways with FC Van in Armenia.
The well-traveled talisman has made 61 career appearances overseas and scored six goals while providing one assist.
In his two campaigns in Armenia, Clifford only managed to score three goals in 24 matches across all competitions for FC Van.
