Lucas Radebe headlines SA Legends to play against Bloem Celtic

Former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe will lead a team consisting of fellow SA legends to play at an inaugural tournament against their Bloemfontein Celtic counterparts later this month.

The Inaugural CPC-Diski99 “Stop Drug Abuse” tournament is set to take place on Saturday, 27 April, at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in the Free State. This is the same day that South Africa will be commemorating 30 years of freedom.

This initiative is sponsored by Fibre Internet Service Provider, Net Nine-Nine and the NPO Concerned Parents Campaigns [CPC], aimed at joining forces with all organisations against substance abuse.

One of the players who will be participating includes former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Josta Dladla. The 44-year-old says it was an easy decision to agree to be part of the initiative.

“When I was asked to be part of this campaign, obviously for me it made sense as a person who has seen these types of things in my family as well,” he told FARPost.

“I know these types of things destroy families and destroy a lot of kids’ futures and society as well. If you check the young ones these days, it’s all about the powder, alcohol and all of those. So I think it’s just a great initiative that the organisers have come up with.

Dladla also can’t wait to face some of his former teammates and opponents he faced during his playing days.

“The last time some of these guys kicked a ball was years ago. So they come and play, and we also meet up. Some were in the national team, some were our teammates. But it’s also great to come out because, as you know, most people, once they leave people, it’s hard. But recognition and keeping them out there and showing the people that we haven’t forgotten about them.
