Broad daylight horror: Ex-Chiefs defender victim of crime

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tlou Molekwane has revealed how he was recently affected by crime in broad daylight while on duty with his football development side.

The 35-year-old, who retired from football in 2019, is currently running his football academy in Polokwane, Limpopo.

He also recently joined the list of coaches for the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools [PMSS] programme in Polokwane. But the former Polokwane City FC player got the scare of his life this past Saturday while he was on duty with his young boys.

One of his academy teams was playing a Polokwane Local Football Association [POLFA] league match in Westernburg, outside Polokwane, this weekend. While the match was on, criminals broke into his vehicle and stole training kits from the academy and his personal belongings, such as his ID book, driver’s license and laptop.

“We are no longer feeling safe. But a lot of people have pledged to help us out,” he told FARPost.

“They also took the wallet that normally has the match referee fees. The person took two bags with soccer kits, markers and all the training equipment, including for medical use.

“Lucky enough, there are cameras around. So, the local shops assisted us in identifying the culprit. So we could see this guy following me as soon as I got out of the vehicle,” he added.

“It has really affected me personally, honestly speaking. Remember, we budget for everything that we use for the academy. So imagine if criminals are now taking soccer kits from us.

“These things are also branded with my name so people will know where they come from. So the only option will be to dump them, and it’s a loss for these kids.”
