Luphumlo Sifumba names Sundowns star as inspiration
Cape Town City FC’s rising star, Luphumlo Sifumba, has revealed the Mamelodi Sundowns player who inspires him to reach new heights and improve his own game.
Sifumba is one of CT City’s academy graduates who impressed while playing for the club’s reserve team in the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC].
CT City head coach Eric Tinkler promoted the young talent to the senior team because of his consistent performances and hard work on the field.
‘Kaka’ made his PSL debut in the 2022/23 season. He has had some game-time to showcase his talent. So far this season, he has made 10 appearances in all competitions.
In addition, he was called up for the SA Under-20 squad camp about two weeks back.
Sifumba says Teboho Mokoena is one of the best midfielders in SA. Interestingly, Sifumba and Sundowns captain Mokoena play in a similar midfield position — central.

The midfield maestro has been consistent on the field. Last season, he was crowned the PSL Footballer of the Season as he helped Sundowns clinch their sixth successive league title.
In the current campaign, Mokoena has made 35 appearances in all competitions. He has found the back of the net five times and provided three assists.
“To be honest with you, I think the player that I always look at is Teboho Mokoena,” said Sifumba.
“I used to watch that guy in each and every game that he plays, I didn’t start in the PSL. I used to watch him when he was playing in the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] at that time.
“I watched him when he was playing the Bayhill Cup tournaments. I was very young at that time, but I still remember him a lot. Now, he’s one of the best in his position and has been performing well.”
