Mosimane eyeing his first back-to-back victories in Saudi Pro League
SA coach Pitso Mosimane is eyeing his first back-to-back victories in the Saudi Pro League with Abha Club.
Upon his arrival in Saudi Arabia in January 2024, Mosimane’s mandate was simple as he was to save the team from getting relegated from the Saudi Arabian top-flight.
To date, the 59-year-old has been in charge of eight matches. He has registered mixed and inconsistent results; three victories, two draws and suffered three defeats.
The positive that the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach has brought in is lifting the team out of the relegation zone for the first time since he joined the club.
In the last encounter, Abha collected maximum points following a 2-1 victory over Al Fateh FC. Grzegorz Krychowiah came to the team’s rescue as he scored a brace.
ABHA CLUB AIMING FIRST TWO CONSECUTIVE WINS UNDER PITSO MOSIMANE
Up next for Mosimane and Co. is an away fixture against Al Shabab on Thursday night at Al Shabab Club Stadium. Kickoff is at 8 pm.
Abha Club will also be aiming to complete a league double against Al Shabab. In the first leg played in October 2023, before Mosimane’s appointment, they won 2-1.
Al Shabab have several high-profile players. They have former Atletico Madrid midfielder Yannick Carrasco, former Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Romain Saiss and former Barcelona FC star Ivan Rakitic.
On the log standings, the two teams are separated by seven points. The e11th-placed Al Shabab have collected 32 points, while 15th-placed Abha have amassed 25 points.
Back-to-back victories would give Abha some breathing space from the relegation zone. They would open a four-point gap from 16th-placed Al Akhdoud, and move to 14th on the log.
