Talking points as Sekhukhune and Stellenbosch share the spoils
Sekhukhune United and Stellenbosch FC played out to a 1-1 draw in the DStv Premiership at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday night.
Below are the talking points from this encounter between Babina Noko and Stellies.
STELLENBOSCH FC’S UNBEATEN RUN CONTINUES
Sekhukhune failed to put an end to Stellenbosch’s unbeaten this evening. Steve Barker‘s side are now unbeaten in 22 games across all competitions since October 2023. In those matches, the Cape club won 14 and drew eight in the process.
In fact, they had won once in seven games before this unbeaten run and were 14th on the table
The last time Stellies lost a game was in September 2023, when they suffered a 3-1 against Mamelodi Sundowns.
ANICET OURA BREAKS THE DEADLOCK
Stellenbosch’s Anicet Oura broke the deadlock in the 41st minute of the showdown to put his side in front.
However, Oura’s goal was not enough to earn the visitors maximum points and consolidate their second spot on the table as Chibuike Ohizu levelled matters in the 86th minute.
LINDA MNTAMBO FACTOR
Linda Mntambo, who has been in form and won the DStv Premiership Player of the Month award, couldn’t do what was expected of him. Given his extensive experience and form, he did not have a bigger role in this tie.
Mntambo was replaced by Keletso Sifama in the 75th minute. This was Sifama’s first appearance for Babina Noko.
OTHER RESULTS
In another DStv Premiership tie, SuperSport United was held to a 1-1 draw by Polokwane City FC at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Tshwane. Oswin Appolis scored the first goal for PLL City, whereas Etosa Ighadaro equalised for SuperSport.
