Percy Tau’s Al Ahly held to a goalless by TP Mazembe in Champions League

Percy Tau’s Al Ahly were held to a 0-0 draw by DR Congo giants TP Mazembe on Saturday afternoon in the CAF Champions League, semi-finals, first leg at TP Mazembe Stadium.

Al Ahly and Mazembe tried everything in their power to hit the target. However, they couldn’t find the back of the net.

Both teams have everything to play for in the second leg to book a spot in the final.

The return leg of the encounter will be played in six days’ time on Friday, 26 April. The much-anticipated encounter will be played at Cairo International Stadium, kickoff is set for 20H00.

Heading into the encounter, Mazembe were aiming to make it two victories in two after defeating Vita Club 2-1 in the league. On the other end, Al Ahly were eyeing a return to winning ways following a 2-1 defeat against Zamalek in a league encounter.

The last time the two sides met was back in 2012 in the Champions League group stages. Al Ahly won 2-1 at home before Mazembe claimed a 2-0 victory at their turf.

PERCY TAU RETURNS FROM INJURY

Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau started the match on the bench after he recovered from a leg injury. The setback saw him miss four matches in all competitions.

The last time Tau was in action for the Egyptian powerhouse was in the Champions League quarter-finals, first leg against Tanzania’s Simba SC. This was in March.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star was introduced at the beginning of the second half. He came in for Reda Slim in attack.

This campaign, the ‘Lion of Judah’, has made 24 appearances in all competitions. He has found the back of the net six times.
