Magesi FC stretch lead as Gallants boost survival hopes with win
The fight at the top and bottom of the SA second-tier table intensified this weekend as Magesi FC stretched their lead to five points, while Marumo Gallants secured a vital win in their relegation scrap.
Gallants boosted their relegation survival hopes in the Motsepe Foundation Championship by beating Maritzburg United 1-0 at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Friday.
With the win, Gallants moved away from the 16th position on the log standings. They are sitting 15th on the log with 24 points in 25 matches played.
The Limpopo-based outfit is level on points with Platinum City Rovers, who suffered a 3-1 defeat against Milford FC on Saturday at Isak Steyl Stadium. Rovers are languishing at the basement of the log.

Elsewhere, leaders Magesi FC narrowly edged out title-chasing AmaTuks 1-0 at Tuks Stadium on Saturday.
The win against the University of Pretoria gave Magesi a five-point advantage the the top of the league table. The Clinton Larsen-coached team has accumulated 49 points, while AmaTuks is occupying the second spot with 44 points.
Meanwhile, Casric Stars handed Baroka FC a 3-0 loss at the Global Stadium on Saturday. Bakgakga are winless in their last three matches in the second tier, and they last collected three points against Orbit College on the 3rd of April.
Baroka have won nine games in the league, drawn nine, and lost seven times in 25 matches. They are sixth on the table with 36 points.
