‘People are yet to see the best of Kanu’: Vusi Vilakazi

Richards Bay FC head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi sent a strong message to football enthusiasts after beating Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

Before the match, he had said that he wanted nothing less than a win when they welcomed Amakhosi.

This was the second consecutive league victory for the Natal Rich Boyz as they continue fighting relegation in the DStv Premiership.

Vilakazi has been at the helm since December when the club sacked Kaitano Tembo after a run of poor results.

He says he was brave enough to accept the task of rescuing a sinking boat. He believes many coaches who are even older than him wouldn’t have stood up to a challenge.

Vilakazi went on to insist that people have yet to see what he is capable of as a coach.

“Thank you for asking me this question, I’ve always wanted to speak about this [him taking a challenge to save Richards Bay],” said Vilakazi after the game against Chiefs at King Zwelithini Stadium.

“I think I’m brave enough to accept the challenge that I was given by the chairman. And also chairman for trusting me with the status of R65 – R75 million and saying this young coming coach will save it for me.

“So, I think the braveness I have and being able to take challenges, it’s not a child’s play what I’m doing right now or what I’m trying to achieve.

“There are coaches who are older than me but they would never take this job if they feel the ship is sinking.

“So, my being brave and believing in myself, I’m still saying that this is not the best of Kanu. People are yet to see Kanu as a coach but it’s fine.”
