Sekhukhune United suffer setback before Sundowns showdown
Sekhukhune United have suffered a setback ahead of their clash against Mamelodi Sundowns in the DStv Premiership on Tuesday night at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
Babina Noko have been in a good run of form in the league and they are yet to suffer a defeat in the second round of the campaign.
In 2024, Sekhukhune played nine league games, winning six and drawing three. After 24 matches, they are fourth in the log standings with 39 points.
The Limpopo-based outfit beat relegation-threatened Cape Town Spurs 1-0 at Peter Mokaba Stadium in their previous match.
Sekhukhune’s impressive form saw head coach Lehlohonolo Seema and the club captain Linda Mntambo win the DStv Premiership Coach and Player of Month accolades for February/March.
WHAT’S SEKHUKHUNE UNITED BLOW AHEAD OF SUNDOWNS GAME?
With Sekhukhune aiming to maintain their unbeaten run against Masandawana, their coach Seema said loanee Katlego Mohamme won’t be available to face his parent club.
“We played Cape Town City FC with [Daniel] Cardoso, Stellenbosch FC with Cardoso, and Cape Town Spurs we played Mohamme. We knew we not gonna have Mohamme against Sundowns because of the loan agreement. So we had to manage Cardoso to have him available for the game against Sundowns”. Seema said.
Mohamme joined Sekhukhune United during the mid-season transfer window on loan from the Brazilians. The 26-year-old centre-back completed a move away from Downs after failing to break into Rulani Mokwena’s starting lineup.
The talented defender faced stiff competition from Grant Kekana, Mothobi Mvala, Mosa Lebusa, and Abdelmounaim Boutouil in the centre-back position.
Meanwhile, Mohamme has featured on five occasions for Sekhukhune across all competitions since his arrival during the January transfer.
In the absence of Mohamme, Seema is likely to use Tresor Yamba Yamba and Cardoso as the centre-back pairing.
The game is set to start at 19:30 in Pretoria.
