Teko Modise’s verdict on Luyolo Slatsha’s first season in the DStv Prem

PSL legend Teko Modise has given his verdict on Cape Town City FC youngster Luyolo Slatsha’s first season in the DStv Premiership.

Modise spent two seasons with CT City, from the 2017/18 to 2018/19 campaigns, before he decided to retire from football.

Slatsha was promoted to the Capetonians senior team ahead of the current season after impressing with the reserve side in the DStv Diski Challenge. He penned a long-term deal with the Citizens that will keep him at the club until June 2027.

Despite being inexperienced in playing professional football, the midfielder has displayed some good performances whenever he has been on the field and has had his fair chance of game time.

The 21-year-old made his PSL debut on the first day of the league. He came in late as a substitute in CT City’s slim 1-0 victory against Polokwane City FC.

Modise is impressed by Slatsha’s performances on the field. He predicts that in a few seasons to come, the academy graduate will be one of the Citizens’ key players.

“I think there is a lot of room to improve. He’s still young, and it’s his first season in the top-tier,” Modise told FARPost. “Luckily, he’s playing games so the best way to learn for the boy is to play those games and make those mistakes so he’s able to learn from them.

“In all the games that he has played for Cape Town City FC, he’s been solid in the midfield. He’s been effective as well.

“Of course, at some point he gets caught because of the inexperience that he has. But I think in the next two seasons, he will be a very important player for Cape Town City FC.”
