Dillan Solomons points to missing ingredient in Chiefs’ attacking woes
Kaizer Chiefs defender Dillan Solomons has revealed one aspect that he believes has been missing among the misfiring Amakhosi strikers.
The Soweto giants have been their worst enemies in some games they lost or drew by wasting clear scoring chances.
They have only scored 19 goals in the DStv Premiership conceding the same number of goals. Only the bottom four teams have scored less than Chiefs.
With a must win league clash against SuperSport United coming up at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, Solomons admits Chiefs strikers have been dealing with confidence issues.
CONFIDENCE A MISSING FACTOR AMONG THE KAIZER CHIEFS STRIKERS
“I think it’s just confidence. Confidence does a great deal for you; if you are confident, you score anything,” said Solomons.
“Anything will go in for you [when you are confident], but I think that has been lacking with our strikers. It obviously comes with pressure.
“When you know there is a lot of pressure on you as a striker, and you are the main guy. You are the guy that’s supposed to get us goals, and I think that also plays a big part in having a mental block or not scoring goals,” he said.
“But I think confidence plays a big part in being upfront and scoring goals.”
DILLAN SOLOMONS URGE FOR A STRONG MENTALITY WITHIN THE AMAKHOSI PLAYERS
The 27-year-old, who has featured in 11 league games this season, has urged his side to develop a strong mentality, especially when they concede first.
“Mentally, it’s been tough trying to figure out how we go about things,” he explained.
“I think for us, just when we concede has been our mental block. The conceding part has been the mental block where we conceded, and we can’t get back into games. In the last game, we created the most chances in the first half, and once Richards Bay FC scored, we just couldn’t get anywhere close to the goals.
“So I think that’s something we need to work on. It’s just mental strength. I think that’s where we lack, but I feel like we also need to create more chances for our strikers, me included. I think that’s putting in better crosses for our strikers to get onto.”
