School of Excellence coach opens up on the march in Johannesburg

School of Excellence coach Given Silango has opened up on the academy’s march that took park in Braamfontein, Johannesburg on Wednesday, 24 April.

In the past few days, news has been making rounds on social media that the football academy is going through hard times.

The organisation is famous for producing top-crop players in the DStv Premiership. This includes the likes of Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng and Siyabonga Mabhena of Mamelodi Sundowns most recently.

WHAT’S HAPPENING AT SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE?

The mentor says Transnet is not taking care of the academy. In addition, Silango stated that Transnet is pulling out of the partnership.

“We’re here to address our problems to Transnet, and we had to come and address those problems,” Silango told FARPost.

“Currently, we don’t have electricity at the SAFA School of Excellence yard. There is a bill that Transnet owes. It was cut off yesterday, and the Ekuruleni Municipality came and disconnected it.

“It’s so sad to see the kids sitting without electricity. The CEO called the principal and said they’re exiting the school, and we won’t get paid tomorrow [Thursday]. We’re not arguing, but they have to do it correctly.

“We’re not contractors but full-time employees. You can’t wake up and say you can’t pay somebody’s salary. That’s why we came here; we wanted clarity. We got families, we got bils to pay, it’s like they’re taking us for a ride.

“How many players have we produced? So many, the list is endless, your [Siyabonga] Mabhena and [Relebohile] Mofokeng.”

“So far there is no response, they keep on saying the CEO is busy. We’ll carry on, and we are planning to go to the labour court. We’ve been writing emails; there’s no positive response.”
