When is Mfundo Vilakazi likely to start? Johnson answers

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has answered the question of when teenage sensation Mfundo Vilakazi is likely to start a match for the club.

Vilakazi came off the bench during Chiefs’ 2-1 win against SuperSport United at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday in the DStv Premiership.

It was his fourth appearance as a substitute for the club. The 18-year-old was recently rewarded with a senior team contract that runs until June 2028.

CAVIN JOHNSON ON WHETHER MFUNDO VILAKAZI IS READY TO START

“That depends on the tactics for the next opponent,” said Johnson. “How we see him in doing the best he can in order to make the team succeed. But he is a good player; he will start.”

Johnson also reflected on the 2-1 victory against SuperSport after going five games with no win.

Kaizer Chiefs got back to winning ways against SuperSport United

“We played according to the plan. We knew the type of game we are going to have that it was going to be a very physical game,” added Johnson.

“At the same time, all games are physical but we took our chance in the first half very well. Saile scored a good goal. In the second half, we also scored a good goal. We won the game, but saying that they also hit the crossbar and they got a penalty.”

WHY KAIZER CHIEFS ARE NOT RELIEVED AFTER WIN AGAINST SUPERSPORT UNITED

Johnson has further explained why the win doesn’t necessarily come as a relief.

“No, I don’t think anybody should be relieved. There are still five games left to go.

“We, as Kaizer Chiefs, are not relieved with that. If it were the other way around, fine wins and then today we had a draw, then maybe we would be upset.

“I think we have just turned a little bit of a corner. We just need to prepare ourselves better for the next game.”
