Ex-coach evaluates Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng’s progress at pro level
Following his rise to prominence at Orlando Pirates, Relebohile Mofokeng has been turning heads in the PSL. Now, his ex-coach, Given Silango, has weighed in on the starlet’s adaptation to professional football.
Mofokeng, a School of Excellence product, was snapped by the Soweto giants after graduating from the academy. He first played for the reserve side in the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] before he was promoted to the senior team towards the end of last season after great performances.
Mofokeng’s senior debut was against Royal AM in a league encounter. This season, the 19-year-old has impressed a lot, becoming one of Jose Riveiro’s key players in the Sea Robbers’ team.
So far this season, the talented attacker has made 31 appearances in all competitions. He has scored three goals and provided six assists.
Silango believes Mofokeng is coming up in the right way following his development at the academy. He’s further happy that he’s getting a lot of game time at a big club like Pirates.
GIVEN SILANGO ON RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG’S PROGRESS AT PRO LEVEL
According to the youth coach, Mofokeng is turning into an inspiration for other youngsters at the School of Excellence who are dreaming of becoming successful footballers in years to come.
“If you can check our players, they are coming in a good structure,” Silango told FARPost. “With us, we don’t rush our players. He was at school for five years, from about 13 years.
“We work on players individually; we make sure that our players get good development. These players have different attributes and skills, Mofokeng is an attacker.
“The future is bright, no doubt about that; he stands a chance to go overseas; it will depend on whether he gets the offer overseas.
“Previously, he went overseas for trials [at English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers]. I think he will get many offers overseas, but, also, it depends if the team will allow him to go.”
