Update on Luke Fleurs’ murder case
The bail hearing of the six men accused in Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs’ murder case has once again been postponed.
The 24-year-old was shot and killed four weeks ago by armed men at a filling station in Roodepoort. Six men have since been charged for the hijacking and murder of the former SuperSport United player.
The suspects are Ndumiso Ndura Moswane [26], Fernando Nando Sive [25], Nhlakanipho Dlamini [21], Franky Xaba [25], Maredi Mphahlele [36] and Thembinkosi Hlomikhawu [31].
They are facing charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and defeating the ends of justice.
SUSPECTS IN KAIZER CHIEFS PLAYER’S MURDER REMAIN BEHIND BARS UNTIL BAIL HEARING
They made their first appearance at the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on 12 April and have been making their bail application. The six were back in the dock on Tuesday, but the bail hearing has now been postponed to Tuesday, 14 May, for further bail application. This is due to the unavailability of the investigating officer.
LUKE FLEURS’ CASE POSTPONED AFTER THE UNAVAILABILITY OF THE INVESTIGATING OFFICER
“At this stage, we are still dealing with the bail application,” NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjononondwane told Journalists outside of court.
“The state was still busy with its evidence in opposing the release of the accused on bail. Hence, the court has now requested the investigating officer [to give evidence].
“If you recall, we actually tendered an affidavit of the investigating officer. Emanating from that affidavit, the court requested him to attend today’s proceedings. So that the court can be in a position to ask certain questions regarding issues that are left unclear.”
Some of the accused have already admitted to being in possession of the former DStv Premiership giants player’s vehicle before stripping it and selling its parts.
This is after a text message was found in accused number four, Franky Xaba’s cellphone saying that if they get arrested, they should confess to the crime.
