Kaizer Chiefs star ruled out for remainder of the season
A Kaizer Chiefs star has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season due to a persistent injury.
Chiefs are pushing to finish in the top eight with just three games left before the curtain comes down on the season.
Following their 2-2 draw against TS Galaxy on Tuesday night, Amakhosi remained eighth on the table. Out of 27 games, they have won nine, drew seven and lost 11.
The remaining three matches against AmaZulu FC, Polokwane City FC and Cape Town Spurs are must-wins if they entertain any hopes of playing top eight next season. But interim head coach Cavin Johnson will have to do without one of the club’s pre-season signings due to injury.
WHICH KAIZER CHIEFS STAR IS RULED OUT FOR THE SEASON
Tebogo Potsane last featured for the club in the 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United on 23 December 2023. He came on as a substitute in that particular game.
The 30-year-old right winger joined Amakhosi from Royal AM at the start of the season on a three-year contract. But a groin injury has kept him on the sidelines for much of the season.
Potsane’s injury is a disappointing setback for both the player and the team. The winger had been making positive contributions to the Soweto giants’ campaign before the injury sidelined him.
At the time of the injury, he had contributed two goals and an assist in 11 outings in all competitions. The former Royal AM attacker recently had surgery and is recovering.
“Potsane is still out,” Amakhosi interim mentor Johnson confirmed to the media recently. George Matlou, Keagan Dolly and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo also remain on the sidelines. The exact timeline for Potsane’s recovery is reportedly under evaluation, but realistically, he could be back in time for pre-season.
