Siphiwe Tshabalala makes his call: Who is the PSL’s best signing this season?

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana star Siphiwe Tshabalala has revealed his pick for the best signing of the 2023/24 PSL season.

In the race for PSL glory, teams scramble to strengthen their squads each season. New signings arrive with the hope of propelling them past rivals and boosting depth. The January window provides another chance for mid-season adjustments, with reinforcements brought in to address weaknesses or capitalise on unexpected opportunities.

The current campaign is close to being completed, as it will end sometime this month, in May.

This season, there have been some individuals who joined new teams and have been impressive for their respective sides.

This includes the likes of Patrick Maswanganyi of Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns’ Lucas Ribeiro, Jamie Webber of Sekhukhune United, Stellenbosch FC defender Thabo Moloisane, and TS Galaxy attacker Lehlohonolo Mojela.

Bafana and Chiefs legend Tshabalala has named Masandawana star Lucas Ribeiro as his best signing this season. The Brazilian international hit the ground running in his first PSL season coming from Belgian second-tier outfit SK Beveren.

“[Lucas] Ribeiro from Sundowns, I think he fitted in perfectly to the star-studded Sundowns team,” Tshabalala told FARPost. “He also contributes to scoring goals and providing assists.

“He’s very strong, and he’s very skilful. He doesn’t lose the ball very easily; he’s one of the best players in the PSL.”

So far in Tshwane giants’ colours, the 25-year-old has contributed towards 23 goals in 35 matches in all competitions. The talented attacker has scored 16 goals and provided eight assists. Ribeiro’s form in front of goal sees him in the race to win the DStv Premiership Golden Boot award.

Ribeiro can finish the season with a treble. The Chloorkop-based side has already won the inaugural African Football League [AFL] title and the Premiership. In addition, Sundowns are in the final of the Nedbank Cup, and they will face rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday, 1 June.
