Gavin Hunt reacts to Kegan Johannes Pirates links

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has reacted to a recent report linking one of his troops at the club, Kegan Johannes, to Orlando Pirates.

Johannes is in his third season with Matsatsantsa now since joining from Ajax Cape Town [now Cape Town Spurs]. The 23-year-old last featured for the club during the 1-1 draw against AmaZulu FC in March.

The report suggests that the Buccaneers have earmarked the player ahead of another CAF inter-club campaign next season. In a short response when asked about the alleged move, Hunt rubbished the rumour.

Hunt’s response came after SuperSport’s goalless draw against relegation-threatened side Cape Town Spurs in a league tie at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday night.

SUPERSPORT UNITED COACH COMMENTS ON REPORTS LINKING KEGAN JOHANNES TO ORLANDO PIRATES

“It’s just people making up stories. There is nothing; I know nothing about it,” said Hunt in Polokwane.

Meanwhile, Hunt was left disappointed after the draw against a 10-man Spurs side. Once again, SuperSport were their worst enemy, missing clear-cut chances. They are now fifth on the DStv Premiership log standings with two matches remaining and are set to miss out on a place in the CAF inter-club competitions

“Big missed opportunities. I think we had enough chances, more than enough chances,” he said.

“But it has been a problem for us. We should have been early in the top three, easy. We played games like these, even the games we lost in the second round we had more chances than the opposition. But it is what it is.”

“Missed chances, and that’s why we conceded goals because you chase. We miss chances and get anxious, and we chase until we concede, and that has happened to us most in the second round. We should have been easy. But we got to score, we have not been scoring goals, that’s the problem for us.”
