Lyle Foster’s Burnley FC relegated from the English Premier League

Lyle Foster’s Burnley FC have been relegated from the English Premier League following a 2-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Therefore, Burnley will be participating in the English Championship next season [second tier] after just one season in the top-flight.

Foster was in the starting line-up as Burnley opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark [25 minutes] through Jacob Larsen. Seven minutes later, Pedro Porro levelled matters in the 32nd minute for Tottenham. Then Micky van de Ven gave Spurs a lead in the 82nd minute.

Burnley have been struggling for form and consistency since the beginning of the season, and they haven’t been able to grind out the results.

The Clarets have spent the most part of the season in the relegation danger zone. With one match remaining, the Vincent Kompany-coached team has managed to collect 25 points. All-in-all, they have registered five victories, 10 draws and suffered 22 defeats.

In addition, Burnley, have been lacking at the back. They are the third-highest conceding team in the league after Sheffield United [101] and Luton Town [81]. Burnley have let in 76 goals.

In their last match of the campaign, Burnley will face Nottingham Forest, who will take on Chelsea later this evening.

HOW LYLE FOSTER HAS FARED FOR BURNLEY FC THIS SEASON

So far this season, Foster has played 23 league matches in all competitions. The goal poacher has been directly involved in eight goals. The talented attacker has found the back of the net five times and provided three assists.

The former Orlando Pirates star’s progress this season was disturbed after he suffered from ‘mental issues’ late last year. This happened in November 2023 after the 23-year-old had signed a new long-term contract.

This cost the attacker a chance to represent his nation in the 2023 AFCON finals that were held in Ivory Coast between January and February.
