‘We’re the only club that has done that’: Gavin Hunt
Following SuperSport United’s 0-0 draw against Cape Town Spurs in a DStv Premiership tie, Gavin Hunt has revealed the one thing that his side has done compared to other top-flight teams.
The game between Matsatsantsa and the Urban Warriors took place on Friday night at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
SuperSport are currently placed fifth on the DStv Premiership log standings with 40 points from 28 outings. As a result, the Tshwane giants are likely to miss out on CAF inter-club competitions.
THE ONE THING SUPERSPORT HAS DONE COMPARED TO OTHER TEAMS
After the game, Hunt was left disappointed with his side’s lack of killer instinct, citing lack of experience as the main problem.
Hunt noted that they are the only team in the SA elite league this season with 13 under-21 players who have played in their matches.
The former Kaizer Chiefs mentor revealed that’s the only reason why they have been failing to convert their scoring opportunities when have chances to do so because they are playing with inexperienced players [youngsters].
Some of those youngsters include Shandre Campbell, Keenan Bezuidenhout, Risen Albert, and Ime Okon, to name a few.
“Look at the age of the players. They are young, and it is their first year [in the DStv Premiership],” Hunt told journalists in Polokwane.
“We are the only club that has done that because 13 players who are Under-21 have played this season and they’re all first years. So, they need to learn from strikers and wide players.
“But where we are in the league is magnificent, but we are missing chances because we lack experience. But not only the young ones, even the older ones, and it’s frustrating so.”
