Thames, FN Rangers secure ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs berths
The road to promotion in the ABC Motsepe League is getting clearer! Over the weekend, Thames FC and FN Rangers secured their spots in the national playoffs, joining the teams already in contention for a step up to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Thames were crowned the SAFA North West provincial winners following their 5-4 win over Army Rockets on penalties on Saturday, 11 May 2024. The game ended with a 2-2 scoreline in regulation time.
Former Orlando Pirates youth player Ebrahim Milanzi had a fantastic campaign with Thames in the North West ABC Motsepe League. In the provincial playoffs decider, Milanzi scored a brace.
The defeat crashed Army Rockets’ ultimate goal of gaining promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship under the tutelage of co-coaches Mokete Tsotetsi and Sihle Makhanya.
In a recent interview with FARPost, Tsotetsi revealed that the technical team’s wish was to guide the side to secure promotion to the SA football second-tier.
FN RANGERS CROWNED THE WESTERN CAPE ABC MOTSEPE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
Meanwhile, FN Rangers were declared the provincial playoffs winners in the Western Cape province after defeating Clarewood FC 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
In fact, FN Rangers are invincibles as they went through the 2023/24 ABC Motsepe League campaign undefeated in the Western Cape.
As a result, Thames and FN Rangers join the likes of Dondol Stars from Gauteng, Njampela FC of KwaZulu-Natal, and Mpumalanga’s Kruger United on the road to the ABC Motsepe League national playoffs.
FOUR PROVINCES STILL UNDECIDED
However, winners are still undecided in Limpopo, Northern Cape, Free State, and Eastern Cape due to pending cases.
The upcoming national playoffs are set to be held in the Northern Cape next month. SAFA will confirm the date and venue for the playoffs in due course. The two finalists of the national playoffs will be promoted to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
