John Maduka’s worry if Royal AM get dragged into Playoffs

Royal AM head coach John Maduka has revealed his worry if his side gets dragged into the PSL promotional/relegation playoffs.

Four teams – Thwihli Thwahla, Richards Bay FC, AmaZulu FC, and Chippa United – can still mathematically end the season in the Pplayoffs spot.

Currently, it’s Richards Bay who sit in 15th place with 27 points after 28 games, just two points behind Royal AM.

Speaking after their recent loss to champions Mamelodi Sundowns, Maduka acknowledged the difficult task of saving the club’s top-flight status in the playoffs.

He expressed his worry about relying on the same squad that hasn’t been accustomed to playing a congested schedule.

JOHN MADUKA SAYS IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT IF ROYAL AM GO TO PLAYOFFS

“It’s been a long season, the same players that are not much used to play week in week out and play for a long time. If you go to playoffs, it’s gonna be very difficult for us,” said Maduka.

However, Royal AM control their destiny. They will have to avoid dropping points in their remaining two games.

They host Chippa United at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday, 18 May, before finishing the season away to Moroka Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium next Saturday, 25 May.

‘IT’S STILL IN OUR HANDS’

“So, our thinking, we are positive that we are not going to go there. It’s still in our hands; we’ve got two games to play,” he added.

“I think it’s more of our size [remaining matches], difficult games, of course. We’ve got one game at home against Chippa; it’s a game we must win.

“We can’t wait for others to do it for us; we must do it for ourselves.

“One good thing like I said, it’s still in our hands. We’ve got two points difference over Richards Bay, we’ve got two games to play, it’s all up to us.”
