Vusumuzi Vilakazi comments on Magoola’s future amid Chiefs links

Richards Bay FC head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has commented on the future of his goalkeeper Salim Magoola who is linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs.

The Soweto giants are reportedly in a market shopping for a goalkeeper for the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season. The search has been prompted by the uncertainty around the future of vetaran goalie Itumeleng Khune.

Khune’s contract at Chiefs will come to an end in June 2024, leaving the club with Brandon Petersen, Bruce Bvuma, and the inexperienced Bontle Molefe.

Both Petersen and Bvuma have shared the goalkeepimg responsibilities this season but none of them has been convincing.

The former Bidvest Wits star featured in 11 appearances across all competitions and conceded 10 goals while Bvuma played 17 matches and conceded 17 goals.

In a quest to improve their goalkeeping department, Chiefs are linked with a transfer move for Salim Magoola from the Natal Rich Boys and Stanley Nwabali of Chippa United.

The Uganda international has been one of the outstanding performers in the Premiership. He was nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Season award last season.

“Magoola is one player that I would like to keep for next season. Now it’s up to him, the Chairman, and his agent,” Vilakazi said on Metro FM.

“What I know [about Magoola’s future] is what I see on social media. I’m not sure if a formal request has been made by someone to aquire Magoola.”

Meanwhile, Bay will lose one of their key players Sanele Barns who has penned a pre-contract with Stellenbosch FC.

Barns has featured in 29 matches in all competitions for the KZN-based side, scoring five goals and providing six assists. He scored a solitary goal that claimed all three points against Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium last Saturday.
