Michael Morton likens DStv Prem starlet to young Keegan Dolly
Veteran midfielder Michael Morton has named one PSL starlet that reminds him of a young Keegan Dolly at Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Kaizer Chiefs star linked up with the Tshwane giants ahead of the 2015/16 campaign from Ajax Cape Town [now called Cape Town Spurs]
With Masandawana, that’s where Dolly played some of his best football and won titles. These are; the Telkom Knockout [now called the Carling Knockout], the DStv Premiership and the CAF Champions League.
Just after the beginning of 2016/17 the talented attacker sealed a move to French Ligue 1 joining Montpellier. He then returned to the DStv Premiership ahead of the 2021/22 season.
SHANDRE CAMPBELL REMINDS MICHAEL MORTON OF YOUNG KEEGAN DOLLY
Morton says SuperSport United rising star Shandre Campbell operates the same way as Keegan Dolly when he was at Sundowns. Campbell is also on Morton’s list for the PSL Young Player of the Season alongside Orlando Pirates’ Relebohile Mofokeng and Jaedin Rhodes of Cape Town City FC.
The SA Under-20 star is having a debut season to remember for the Tshwane side. He’s playing a pivotal role for Matsatsantsa scoring goals and providing assists.
Morton is satisfied by the 18-year-old’s displays on the field each time he plays. In 29 matches in all competitions, Campbell has scored five goals and provided five assists.
“The way that he moves with the left foot, the way he crosses the ball he reminds me of young Keegan Dolly. That’s when he was at his prime at Sundowns,” Morton told FARPost.
“He’s scoring goals and he’s providing assists, he’s amazing with his first touch and how he gets out of those difficult situations. Campbell has a lot of ability to be a top player, he’s an exciting talent and exciting for the future.
