SuperSport United’s 21-year-old faces surprise exit

A 21-year-old player faces a surprise exit from SuperSport United with just two games left before the curtain comes down on the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

The Tshwane-based team, led by Gavin Hunt, has struggled to find consistent form this season.

With only 46 points achievable in their remaining two games, SuperSport, currently sixth on the log with 40 points after 28 matches, will not qualify for next season’s CAF Inter-club competitions.

SuperSport secured their spot in the CAF Confederation Cup last season, finishing third in the league standings, trailing behind Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

However, with Moroka Swallows and Orlando Pirates in their remaining fixtures, Matsatsantsa will be looking to finish strong. They face Swallows on Saturday and the Buccaneers next weekend.

But before the curtain comes down on the season, the club is reportedly mulling a big decision on one of their players.

WHICH PLAYER IS SUPERSPORT UNITED AXING?

A highly placed club source has told FARPost that Tanzania international Abdulrazack Mohamed Hamza could be on his way out of the club.

According to the source, the club has no intention to extend his deal. Hamza signed a one year deal at the start of the season. He could be notified of the club’s decision in the next few days.

“He’s unlikely to be here next season because there is talk that he could be released. Unfortunately, Hamza has not had a lot of game time this season. It’s not worked out too well,” the source explained.

He made eight starts across all competitions, including four appearances in the CAF Confederation Cup. In three of his appearances, the Taifa Stars centre-back was played as a makeshift right-back.

Hamza showed promise during his limited time on the pitch, demonstrating his potential. However, it appears he did not do enough to earn himself a contract extension. Hunt has lamented that the club was thin on numbers in certain positions. He could go out in the market for a replacement.
