Former Kaizer Chiefs star makes plea to Cavin Johnson

A former Kaizer Chiefs star has made a plea to the club’s interim coach Cavin Johnson for the remainder of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership.

Amakhosi have had a challenging season under the guidance of Johnson who took over the coaching role in October 2023.

The ex-SuperSport United mentor was appointed to steer the Chiefs ship after the head coach Molefi Ntseki was fired.

Ntseki’s stint at the Soweto giants came to an end prematurely after a string of poor results.

Meanwhile, Johnson has also failed to produce positive results for Chiefs after winning six games in all competitions, drawing six while losing eight times in his 20 games at the helm.

The Glamour Boys are sitting eighth on the league table with 35 points in 28 matches played.

BRIAN BALOYI TELLS CAVIN JOHNSON TO GIVE BONTLE MOLEFE A CHANCE

With Johnson set to go back to his initial Head of Academy role at the end of the campaign, retired Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brian Baloyi has pleaded with the mentor to give the fourth-choice goalie Bontle Molefe a chance to prepare him for the upcoming season.

Molefe is serving as an understudy to Itumeleng Khune, Brandon Petersen and Bruce Bvuma. However, he is yet to make his debut in the first team since graduating from the club’s development ranks.

Chiefs tied the 21-year-old shot-stopper with a new long-term contract last year. It was an indication that he was one for the future.

“I think when I look at all the goalkeepers at Chiefs… All of them had their chance, except for the young goalkeeper Molefe,” Baloyi told FARPost.

“He needs someone with a big personality, we need a coach that can take a chance on the young boy. All of us including the ones that are playing, someone took a chance on them. I was hoping that the coach could take a chance on this young goalkeeper.

“Give him a chance in these few games so we can see if he has what it takes to fight for a place next season.” After Saturday’s clash with Polokwane City, Amakhosi will be left with a tie against relegated Cape Town Spurs.
