Baroka FC and AmaTuks book spots in the playoffs

Baroka FC and AmaTuks will battle it out in the promotion/relegation playoffs, having clinched the two spots on the last day of the Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

The promotion/relegation playoffs will be contested by the team that finishes the campaign in the 15th position in the DStv Premiership and two NFD clubs that finished second and third on the log standings.

Baroka played to a 1-1 draw against AmaTuks at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium to climb to the third place in the Championship table. Bakgakga have collected 49 points in the 2023/24 season after winning 12 league games, drawing 11 while losing seven times in 30 matches. Despite sharing spoils with Baroka, AmaTuks secured a second-place finish after collecting 49 points.

The Pretoria-based side was involved in the title race in the second tier for the most part of the just-ended season.

Tuks were beaten to the automatic promotion to the SA’s top flight by Magesi FC who won the league with three games to spare.

JDR STARS LOSE OUT ON THE TOP THREE FINISH IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP

Elsewhere, JDR Stars who were gunning for a position in the top three finished fifth on the table. They suffered a 2-1 defeat against Maritzburg United on Sunday. This season, Stars won 12 games, drew 11 and lost on seven occasions.

Meanwhile, NB La Masia followed Platinum City Rovers after being relegated to the ABC Motsepe League. La Masia played a dull goalless against Black Leopards.
