Cheeseboy Mokoena: Where he’s been and what’s next

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates winger Lebohang ‘Cheeseboy’ Mokoena has spoken about his playing future, having been without a club for some time.

Mokoena spoke following the exhibition match between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates legends during the opening of the Siyabonga Sangweni Sports Complex in Dondotha, Mpangeni.

Nicknamed ‘Cheeseboy,’ Mokoena was on the losing side as Pirates fell 12-13 in a penalty shootout after a 0-0 draw.

He expressed his desire to return to action after being clubless since his 2022 departure from Moroka Swallows

He explained that he needed to take a break following the passing of his wife. However, he emphasised his readiness to seize any opportunity that arises.

LEBOHANG CHEESEBOY MOKOENA ON HIS FUTURE

“I do miss the action, I was asked the same thing when I was in Bloemfontein, playing the Bloemfontein Celtic legends,” said Mokoena.

“I was asked this, ‘When are you going back to the field?’ Other people don’t understand the politics and the dynamics.

“And also on my side, having lost my wife, I decided to take a bit of a break so I could focus on the kids.

“But obviously, I’m coaching now, school, I’m also busy as an ambassador. So, there are other things I’m trying to do in case I don’t go back.

“But if there’s an opportunity, Cheese is available.” Mokoena draws inspiration from his peers Vuyo Mere and Bernard Parker, who are still playing for TS Galaxy.

EMULATING BERNARD PARKER AND VUYO MERE

“Vuyo Mere is still playing, Bernard Parker is still playing, if they’re doing it, I can also do it,” he added.

“It’s a matter of me getting the opportunity.

“The things didn’t go well at Swallows, the way it ended, it wasn’t fair but I guess it’s life.”
