Jabu Mahlangu sends message to Khune after Chiefs’ tribute

Following Itumeleng Khune’s recognition for 25 years with Kaizer Chiefs, the club’s former star Jabu Mahlangu has sent a message to the goalkeeper.

The 36-year-old Khune made a brief honorary appearance during the club’s second-to-last DStv Premiership match against Polokwane City at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

He was introduced in the last 15 minutes of the match as the Soweto giants were held to a home 0-0 draw by Rise and Shine.

Mahlangu, who left Kaizer Chiefs for SV Mattersburg move in 2004, the same year Khune was promoted to the senior team, hailed the shot-stopper as a South African legend. He expressed his deep respect for the Ventersdorp-born star.

Mahlangu praised Khune’s dedication to honing his talent, mentioning that the former Bafana Bafana captain was training four times a day.

JABU MAHLANGU HAILS ITUMELENG KHUNE AS SOUTH AFRICAN LEGEND

“Wow, exceptional talent, we all know what Khune has done for Kaizer Chiefs and South Africa,” said Mahlangu.

“I hope we will have another Khune who will take over from the level of Khune and take it to another level.

“But for me, I’m happy for him. I hope even Amakhosi fans and all the South Africans because he was number one for Bafana Bafana for a very long time.

“He has done us proud, he has done his family proud. He has shown hard work because he used to train hard. Khune used to train four times a day to perfect his distribution and everything.

“It didn’t just come easily. Yes, he’s talented but talent on its own is never enough, you need to work hard to make sure that you enhance your talent.

“Much love and respect to Itumeleng Khune. It’s fair for me to say he is a South African legend.”
