Skudu Makudubela reflects on his league triumph in Tanzania

Young Africans winger Mahlatse ‘Skudu’ Makudubela, having secured his first-ever league title triumph with the Tanzanian giants, has shared insights gleaned from his experience for South African footballers.

The Tanzanian giants won their third consecutive title, which was Makudubela’s first league title ever.

The talented winger, who has already attracted interest from some PSL clubs, never won a league title in South Africa.

He has been in Timu ya Wananchi’s books since July 2023 when he joined on a free transfer. That was after parting ways with Marumo Gallants following their relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

After winning Tanzania’s Mainland Premier League title, Skudu has reflected on the success, drawing key lessons for local footballers.

“It’s my first league title. In South Africa, I have won cup titles but not the league. To be honest, it’s a different feeling, but it’s very special.

“I’m happy that I made that achievement, especially that it comes with key lessons for youngsters. As much as I played in the season, I feel like I did not reach my full potential.

“It’s because I know myself, I know what I can offer. But all the same, I’m focusing myself on the next games, cup competitions so that I continue proving myself,” Makudubela told FARPost.

SKUDU’S ADVICE TO YOUNG SA FOOTBALLERS

Makudubela took time to share lessons from his time in Tanzania. ” I’ve obtained so many lessons from this move.

“When I came here, there were mixed feelings but to be honest, my time here has been beyond my expectations.

“As a player, you have to come out of your comfort zone. That has been my key lesson. Of course, playing at home is ideal but why not try other avenues and prove your worth?

“So my advice to the young footballers is that one must come out of their comfort zone. You can only be counted on the efforts you make.

“Relaxing at home and hoping that you will be noticed is rather pointless. Let’s take those offers and prove our worth as players,” he added.
