Morena Ramoreboli’s Galaxy hit setback in league title race
The race for the Botswana Premier League title just got a whole lot tighter as Morena Ramoreboli’s Jwaneng Galaxy suffered a setback on the pitch on Wednesday afternoon.
Ramoreboli’s troops played out to a goalless draw against another title-chasing side, Gaborone United, at the Lobatse Sports Complex, leaving Galaxy’s championship dreams hanging in the balance.
But despite dropping two crucial points, the 2023 Bafana Bafana COSAFA Cup coach’s team still sit at the summit of the log standings. However, Township Rollers are breathing down their necks at 60 points in second place.
Meanwhile, Gaborone, lurks in contention in third place on the same number of points as Rollers, with one game remaining in the season.
Rollers crushed BDF XI 4-1 at home on Wednesday, with a brace from Segolame Boy fueling their title chase.
BOTSWANA PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS TO BE DECIDED ON THE LAST DAY
Last season, Ramoreboli defied all odds to win his first league title in Botswana. This season, he can make history by completing a double in the country’s top-tier league.
Jwaneng Galaxy are also in the final of the Botswana Orange FA Cup after defeating UB Hawks 1-0 in the semi-finals most recently.
BOTSWANA TOP THREE LAST PREMIER LEAGUE MATCHES
In the last matches of the season on Saturday, fireworks are expected. Defending champions Galaxy will face Holy Ghost FC at home. Contenders Gaborone United will take on Orapa United away from home. Then, Township Rollers will take on TAFIC FC also away from home.
Last Sunday, the Botswana Premier League announced that all three top contenders for the league title would play at the same time. Kickoff will be at 15H00.
The pressure is on for Ramoreboli’s men. Only a win in their season finale will secure them back-to-back titles.
