Ramovic unloads again: Fresh attack on Mokwena

The war of words continues as TS Galaxy tactician Sead Ramovic launches another direct attack on Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena.

Ramovic and Mokwena were involved in another feud when Sundowns and Galaxy played to an entertaining 1-1 draw at Mbombela Stadium in a DStv Premiership tie Tuesday evening.

Galaxy came close to becoming the first team to beat Sundowns in the league this season after scoring a brilliant goal through Puso Dithejane in the second-half. The Brazilians fought back as Peter Shalulile netted an equaliser in the dying minutes of the match.

After the final whistle, both sets of benches were involved in a heated exchange, with the police coming onto the pitch to calm the situation.

The feud between Ramovic and Mokwena has been a hot topic for most of the 2023/24 campaign. Early this year, the German-born mentor claimed that Mokwena threatened him in a private phone conversation.

Meanwhile, In the reverse fixture between Masandawana and TS Galaxy at Loftus Versfeld Stadium last month, the former Orlando Pirates coach accused Ramovic of instructing his players to intentionally injure Bongani Zungu. This comes after Zungu’s career-ending injury on Galaxy star Bernard Parker in October 2023 in a league game.

The Rockets have since filed a lawsuit against Rulani Mokwena with the High Court, demanding a public apology for allegedly making a defamatory statement.

WHAT DID SEAD RAMOVIC SAY ABOUT MOKWENA?

With Galaxy missing the golden opportunity to beat Sundowns, Ramovic said his charges don’t need a R200 million squad to compete, and Sundowns would need to buy Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappe to defeat them.

“We don’t have financial power like them [Sundowns] to spend over R200 million. And to be outclassed like this, I think we dominated the whole game, and credit must go to my players,” Ramovic said on SuperSport TV.

“What a game from my players because we played three days ago with the same squad and they still have this kind of energy. We didn’t change players like they did because they have a bigger squad.

“All in all, congratulations to the opponents for a fair, tough game, and I think the supporters enjoyed it, but we also have to be clear: we had unbelievable chances. The only thing is that we have to improve the last pass or to score.

RAMOVIC SUGGESTS SUNDOWNS BUY MBAPPE, MESSI, AND RONALDO

“This is just the start of beautiful things. Like I said when I came here, we want to be one of the best teams in our league. It’s a process, but we’re on the right track. We improve every year, and now we have 44 points. Yes, we have to win one more game so that we get to the top four, which will be amazing.

Ramovic added: “If we can reach that, it will be like we won the league because if you check what financial power we have and what other teams have, especially ‘Mr Sunshine’.

“This is hard work, this is coaching, quality and this is the highest education as a coach, if they want to beat us again, maybe they should buy Mbappe, Ronaldo and, Messi, maybe then he has a bigger chance. “If not, then he has to take the highest education because that’s what he doesn’t have.”
