Rulani Mokwena calls on Yellow Nation to emulate Man City supporters
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has urged the club’s supporters, known as the Yellow Nation, to emulate Manchester City supporters.
Manchester City’s fanbase has remained a constant source of support through thick and thin. Even during periods of frustrating results, the Etihad faithful have stayed vocal and passionate, backing their team through adversity.
A good example this season is when Man City failed to defend their UEFA Champions League title, as they were eliminated by Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.
On the final day of the English Premier League, Man City supporters filled up the Etihad Stadium as the club was crowned champions for the fourth time in a row.
MOKWENA SAYS SUNDOWNS SUPPORTERS SHOULD BE LIKE MAKE CITY SUPPORTERS
The Soweto-born mentor, Mokwena, has emphasised the importance of unwavering support, urging his team’s fans to emulate the passionate backing Manchester City receives from their supporters.
“I hope the Sundowns supporters watched Manchester City over the weekend and how full the stadium was,” said Mokwena. “Even though they were disappointed that they lost in the quarter-finals of the [UEFA] Champions League. There was a huge sense of appreciation to win the fourth league title in a row.
“This special group [Sundowns players] has delivered their seventh league title in a row—for a team known as Masandawana, ‘menwana seven’. For a special inauguration and trophy handover, they will likely come and honour the players.
Mokwena further urged the Sundowns supporters to fill Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday, 25 May. Masandawana will host Cape Town City FC in their last match of the season. After the league tie, they’ll be handed their DStv Premiership trophy.
“Fill up Loftus and give the players the celebration and the atmosphere they deserve and also that they deserve as supporters because they deserve to celebrate it. These moments do not come forever and repeat themselves; they have to enjoy them.
“The supporters of Mamelodi Sundowns have got to enjoy this period because it’s a special period; it’s given to us through the grace of God. My plea for them is to fill up Loftus so we can have an incredible celebration and honour these players for what has been an absolute unbelievable season.”
