‘That is out of my control’: Jamie Webber
Sekhukhune United midfielder Jamie Webber has revealed a nagging frustration that lies beyond his control despite consistently impressing on the field of play.
Webber has been one of the top performers for Sekhukhune in the DStv Premiership in his first season with the club. The former SuperSport United midfielder has played 35 matches in all competitions, including in the CAF Confederation Cup. He has scored five goals and provided five assists.
However, since Lehlohonolo Seema, who has been put on ‘special leave,’ succeeded Brandon Truter in November 2023, Webber has been struggling for game time.
In the new year, he has made 13 appearances, starting seven and coming in six times as a substitute. In addition, prior to the AmaZulu FC league tie on 18 May 2024, Webber had missed the last two matches for Sekhukhune.
JAMIE WEBBER SAYS IT’S OUT OF HIS CONTROL THAT HE’S OVERLOOKED TO REPRESENT BAFANA BAFANA
On Wednesday, 15 May, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos named the preliminary squad that will take on Nigeria and Zimbabwe in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June, and Webber didn’t make it on the list.
Therefore, the 26-year-old says he has to work extra hard with Babina Noko, improve his numbers [statistics] and be more consistent in his performances. This, in turn, will help him to catch the attention of the Bafana coach, Broos.
In addition, Broos once revealed that he likes to give opportunities and use younger players in his team.
“To be honest, I have to work harder; look, there is room for improvement. I feel like my stats need to improve,” Webber told FARPost.
“I need to be consistent and that type of thing. Yes, I started the season well, and I’ve been doing well this season, but I haven’t received a call-up. That is out of my control, it’s up to the coaches at the national team to make those decisions.
“So all I can do on my side is to perform well, and I feel like I’ve been better, obviously, compared to my time at SuperSport United. I can only improve my performances.”
