SuperSport makes bold move, defender’s contract not renewed

SuperSport United have made a bold move, deciding against renewing a contract of a defender who has been at the club for a season.

As the 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign draws to a close, SuperSport United have already started their roster change.

With just one game left, Matsatsantsa have been unable to secure enough points for next season’s CAF Inter-club competitions. Having previously secured a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup by finishing third behind Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, SuperSport’s struggles this season have led to their current fifth-place position.

With Orlando Pirates as their remaining opponents, the team is determined to finish strong. However, whispers suggest they have notified one of their defenders that his contract will not be renewed.

FARPost can confirm that Tanzania international Abdulrazack Mohamed Hamza will not be staying at the club beyond his current contract.

“The club has sat down with him and notified him of their decision. He has been released from his contract and the club will not be extending,” an impeccable source confirmed.

The 21-year-old joined the Tshwane side at the start of the season on a one-year deal. As it stands, indications are that the club has written to him expressing that they will not be renewing his deal.

He initially joined the club on a short-term contract at the start of the season. This allowed both parties to assess the fitness of the player before committing to a longer agreement.

Despite this limited involvement, the club’s decision appears straightforward, given his mere eight appearances throughout the season.

Notably, all of those appearances occurred before the 2024 AFCON tournament, indicating a complete absence from the second half of the season.

The Taifa Stars center-back-cum-midfielder made four appearances in the CAF Confederation Cup, showcasing his versatility by playing as a makeshift right-back in three of his outings for the club.
