Suspended PSL referee to officiate in World Cup qualifier

Despite being suspended for domestic matches, PSL referee Jelly Chavani is set to officiate in an upcoming World Cup qualifier match. Chavani has been suspended by SAFA for failing to send off Mamelodi Sundowns defender Divine Lunga during a Nedbank Cup semi-final match against Stellenbosch. Sundowns won the clash 2-1 and are set to meet rivals Orlando Pirates in the Final at Mbombela Stadium on 1 June.

Lunga made a challenge on Stellenbosch winger Devin Titus while he was already on a yellow card. But the oversight from Chavani came while he was attending to injured assistant referee Zakhele Siwela. His season is now over and will not be considered for any local matches until the beginning of next season.
