Thatayaone Ditlhokwe’s warning to Chiefs about relegated Spurs

Kaizer Chiefs defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe has warned his side against complacency ahead of their crucial 2023/24 DStv Premiership last match of the season against relegated Cape Town Spurs.

The two teams lock horns on Saturday 25, May at the DHL Stadium. Kickoff is at 3pm. In the reverse fixture played in November 2023, the Glamour Boys won 3-2.

The Soweto giants have been underperforming this season, they started with coach Molefi Ntseki but he was shown the door and was replaced by Cavin Johnson in October 2023.

With one match remaining to finish the season, Amakhosi find themselves sitting eighth on the log standings with 36 points. They have managed to register nine victories, and nine draws and suffered 11 defeats.

The PSL giants’ spot in the top eight is not yet guaranteed as they are on par with AmaZulu FC and Polokwane City FC who are ninth and 10th respectively. In addition, 11th-placed Golden Arrows and 12th-placed Chippa United who have collected 35 points and 34 points are also eyeing the top eight spot.

Therefore, Chiefs only need a victory against CT Spurs to book a spot in the MTN8 next season. Also, they should score more goals than Usuthu as Chiefs has a better goal difference of one.

The 25-year-old says they won’t underestimate the Capetonians because they’ve been relegated. He says Spurs pose a dangerous threat because they have nothing to lose. Chiefs on the other hand want to finish in the top eight.

“This last game is still very important. We are preparing very seriously in order to solidify our spot in the Top 8,” Ditlhokwe told the club’s media department.

“They may already be relegated, but that can make them dangerous. They have nothing to lose, and we have a lot to lose. Therefore, we are preparing to be at our best.

“There is a chance of the other teams on the same points overtaking us, which is why we are focused first and foremost on winning against Spurs, and hopefully scoring a few goals.”
