Mlondi Mbanjwa addresses Chiefs & Portugal rumours

AmaZulu FC midfielder Mlondi Mbanjwa has addressed transfer rumours linking him to Kaizer Chiefs and a move to Portugal.

The 25-year-old has been a revelation for Usuthu this season, having joined the club from Uthongathi FC in August.

He has made 27 appearances, scoring one goal and registering three assists across all competitions.

Mbanjwa was included in the Bafana Bafana squad that played FIFA series international friendlies against Algeria and Andorra.

He’s also part of the provisional 36-man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Zimbabwe in June. Reports have heavily linked the midfielder with a move to Portugal and Kaizer Chiefs domestically.

However, Mbanjwa has downplayed the rumours, emphasising his focus remains on improving his game.

MLONDI MBANJWA HAS HIS SAY ON PORTUGAL & CHIEFS RUMOURS

“For me, I just focus more on my work; I just ignore the rumours,” said Mbanjwa.

“After all it’s rumours, it’s not like it’s something legit where there’s pen and paper. So far, I’m handling that [being on the news] very well.”

Mbanjwa says being recognised by the national team coach has significantly boosted his confidence. He believes it also serves as a testament to the idea that anything is achievable.

‘IT’S A CONFIDENCE BOOSTER’

“It’s a confidence booster; it has brought a lot of confidence in me and other players to say it’s possible,” he added.

Mbanjwa will be hoping to be of help as AmaZulu are aiming for a top-eight finish on Saturday.

A victory would give them a chance to end in 8th place, even though it’s not in their hands. They would have to hope that Kaizer Chiefs and Polokwane City FC don’t collect maximum points on the day.

Usuthu will take on rivals Golden Arrows at Moses Mabhida Stadium at 3:00 pm in the KZN Derby.
