AmaZulu FC veteran defender looks set for exit

Following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, AmaZulu FC are expected to part ways with one of their veteran defenders, FARPost has learnt.

In the recent past seasons, Usuthu have gained a reputation for significantly revamping their squads during the offseasons.

The upcoming transfer window will be a test of how the KwaZulu-Natal side approaches player movement, especially after a below-average season.

They finished 11th in the DStv Premiership standings, managing only eight wins in 30 league matches. They drew 12 and lost 10.

Next season will mark their second consecutive absence from the MTN8 competition, having failed to qualify for the top eight.

Their last MTN8 appearance was in the 2022/23 season when they lost in the final at the hands of Orlando Pirates.

This campaign could be no different as there could be significant changes for the Sandile Zungu-owned club as they look to build a stronger team for next season.

WHO’S A DEFENDER HEAVILY LINKED WITH THE EXIT DOOR?

FARPost understands Veluyeke Zulu could soon be on his way out with his contract expiring in June. It appears the club has a two-year option, however, the player wants to go elsewhere having struggled with game time at Usuthu.

The 29-year-old only managed five appearances in the DStv Premiership this season, missing all other competitions.

This was his second campaign with the Durban-based outfit having joined the club in 2022 from Chippa United. Overall, he only featured in 18 games across all competitions during his two-year stint at AmaZulu.

The Ulundi-born centre-back has also previously played for Golden Arrows, Richards Bay, Chippa United and Maritzburg United.

Meanwhile, with a handful of players’ contracts expiring in June, AmaZulu face some tough decisions ahead of the new season.

They’ll also need to be bold in the transfer market to compete for a better showing next year.
