Milford chairman addresses sale talk, confirms big change

Milford FC chairman Dr Xanti Pupuma has addressed talk that ABC Motsepe side Munaca FC’s owners are closing in on purchasing his club’s status, also confirming an imminent big change at the KZN outfit.

Milford made headlines last season when they eliminated Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs from the Nedbank Cup. They finished 13th with 34 points, just three points above the relegation spot.

There has been a strong rumour circulating that the club is negotiating with the owners of Munaca FC. Munaca is an ABC Motsepe League based in Limpopo coached by Sello Chokoe.

But Dr Pupuma has rubbished the rumour and called it nonsense. “It’s total nonsense. I don’t even know what Munaca is,” he told FARPost.

“We are not going anywhere, we are trying to get to the PSL [DStv Premiership]. No one is buying anything, I don’t sell. Of course, we will still be around, we are football people,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Pupuma has also confirmed that he has stepped down as head coach. A new coach to take charge of the club for next season is set to be announced in the next few weeks.

“It’s something that I wouldn’t do again, it brings a lot of stress and demand,” he confirmed to this publication.

“I think I am happy to stick to the Chairmanship. It [coaching] started as a short-term thing. But the good thing is that we managed to save the team.

Milford recently appeared before the PSL DC after being accused of not complying with the PSL under 23 rules. The club was alleged to have made an error after they replaced two U-23 players with overage players against Upington City in April.

But the PSL DC ruled that the case by Upington was without merit. It was dismissed with costs. This publication has gathered that their case could reach the level of arbitration as soon as next week.
