PSL announce DStv Prem monthly awards winners
The Premier Soccer League [PSL] have announced the winners of the DStv Premiership awards for May 2024.
The winning coach and player will each get a trophy and R7,000 courtesy of DStv for their outstanding displays.
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena walked away with the Coach of the Month for May alongside Orlando Pirates‘ goal-poacher Tshegofatso Mabasa, who was awarded the Player of the Month accolade.
In May, Mokwena won four matches, drew two, and lost one on the last day of the season against Cape Town City FC. Masandawana scored 10 goals and conceded three from the seven matches played in May. The 37-year-old mentor beat Eric Tinkler to the May DStv Premiership Coach of the Month award.
In fact, this is the third award for Mokwena this campaign, having won it before in August and April.
TSHEGOFATSO MABASA REWARDED
Meanwhile, Mabasa won the Player of the Month award after scoring five goals in the Pirates’ five games in May. His stellar performances saw him finish the season as the DStv Premiership leading top goalscorer with 16 goals, just a goal ahead of Stellenbosch FC’s Iqraam Rayners.
Mabasa became the second player to win a monthly individual award this season from the Buccaneers after Thabiso Lebitso.
The Pirates frontman was in contestation with Cape Town City’s Jaedin Rhodes, Oswin Appollis from Polokwane City FC and Sanele Barns of Richards Bay FC for the Player of the Month award.
GOAL OF THE MONTH WINNER
Talented midfielder Lindokuhle Mtshali of Moroka Swallows walked away with the DStv Premiership Goal of the Month award for his stunning goal against Stellenbosch FC.
Judges believed that “Mtshali showed great technique in executing his goal from the edge of the 18-yard area” in the Dube Birds’ victory over Stellies.
