Polokwane City interim coach comments on his future
Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe has had his say on his future after guiding the club to a Top 8 finish.
The Rise and Shine managed to secure the Top 8 spot following their return to the DStv Premiership.
The Limpopo club ended the 2023/24 season in position eight with 39 points from 30 outings. Mohafe took over the coaching reins as a caretaker coach in December 2023 following Lehlohonolo Seema’s departure, who went on to join Sekhukhune United at the time.
Coach Mohafe was assisted by ex-Jomo Cosmos forward Brice Aka, who joined Rise and Shine from Gauteng ABC Motsepe League outfit, Cosmos.
PHUTI MOHAFE ON HIS FUTURE AT POLOKWANE CITY
When asked if he would like to take over as the head coach at PLK City next season, Mohafe said: “That one depends on the board of the team. If they say go and lead the team, I will do it.”
“But, if they bring someone to support [work with], I will also do that. You must bear in mind that I am not yet the head coach. I was working as an interim coach.”
PHUTI MOHAFE ON WHAT WAS THE CLUB’S MANDATE
Mohafe also stated the club’s mandate was not to qualify for top 8, but to save the topflight status.
“Honestly, I can confirm that the mandate was not to go into the top eight. The mandate was for us to save the status of the team,” he added.
“So, for us to qualify into the top eight, is a mission accomplished and a great achievement for the entire Polokwane City starting from the players up until the chairman.”
