What DStv Prem return means for Deolin Mekoa
After two years in the amateur league, Magesi FC midfielder Deolin Mekoa has reflected on his return to the DStv Premiership. Mekoa joined Magesi in January this year from SAFA ABC Motsepe League club Summerfield Dynamos.
He initially spent a season at Bizana Pondo Chiefs in the National First Division before they were also relegated in 2022.
The 30-year-old played a key role in seeing Magesi secure promotion to the elite league for the first time in their history.

“For me, it’s really a happy feeling. I have not been in the professional setup for a long time,” Mekoa told FARPost.
“To get back to the professional league and for the team to get promoted, for me is a very good feeling. We worked hard as a team to achieve this dream. It’s what every player is looking for in his football career. For me, I am very happy.
“I knew the time would come but it was all in God’s timing. For me, I never gave up. It was still the same working hard. Even though I was still playing in the ABC Motsepe League. So for me, I knew the day would come and it came.”
REUNION WITH FORMER COACH REJUVENATE MAGESI FC MIDFIELDER
Joining Magesi also meant Mekoa reunited with Clinton Larsen whom he worked with at Summerfield. Larsen has described Mekoa’s form this season as one of the best in his career.
“I do agree [with Larsen]. But I think I can perform even better. I think this time I just had the performance here at Magesi.”
Mekoa had also confirmed that he is set to sit down with the club’s management to map a way forward regarding contract issues. The former Maritzburg United player confirmed to FARPost that he desires to remain at the club.
